John Onians, profesor emérito de Artes Visuales y Director del Programa de Investigación de Arte del Mundo en la University of East Anglia, Norwich, Inglaterra, en su libro Atlas del Arte, 2008, propone una revisión de la historia del arte al cartografiar el desarrollo cultural por medio de la relación entre actores y su contexto natural.  //  John Onians, emeritus professor of Visual Arts and Director of the Program of Global Art Investigation in the East Anglia University, Norwich, England, in his book, Art Atlas, 2008, he proposes a revision of art history by mapping cultural development through the relationship between agents and their natural context.

Por otra parte, George Kubler, historiador del arte enfocado en Latinoamérica, desarrolló la idea de Kunstgeographie o geografía artística. Este término aborda la localización en el tiempo y en el espacio físico de las características que determinan el arte y la arquitectura por periodos dentro de la historia de la humanidad. Esta aproximación abrió la posibilidad de ver estas áreas desde otras perspectivas distintas a las convencionales.  //  From another perspective, George Kubler, a historian focused on Latin America, developed the idea of Kunstgeographie or Artistic Geography. This term addresses the physical, temporal and spatial localization of the characteristics that determine art and architecture in eras during human history. This approach opened the possibility of seeing these areas from unconventional perspectives.

Bajo esta lógica, Arttextum abre la posibilidad de traspasar las convencionales barreras geográficas, al poner de manifiesto información proveniente de los artistas con su propio contexto creativo. Se propone la realización de mapas, cuya compilación proporcione la idea de un atlas enfocado al arte visual de esta época. El objetivo principal es desarrollar tres tipos de mapas enfocados al análisis de artistas visuales y su relación con otros artistas (mapas de hidrografía creativa), a la investigación de museos, galerías y espacios de exhibición de arte (mapas de topografía artística) y al estudio de las condiciones que generan el arte emergente de la actualidad, así como, la influencia de este arte en el terreno local e internacional (mapas de clima cultural).  //  Within this logic, Arttextum opens the possibility of crossing over the conventional geographic barriers, by evidencing information that comes from the artists within their own creative contexts. It proposes the elaboration of maps, which are compiled as an atlas focused on visual art of this epoch. The principle objective is to develop three types of maps focused on the analysis of visual artists and their relationships with other artists (maps of creative hydrography), to the investigation of museums, galleries, and art exhibition spaces (maps of artistic topography), and to the study of the conditions that generate the current emergent art scene, as well as the influence of this art in a local and international landscape (maps of cultural climate).
