Background

Hoy en día, el grueso de la población artística se compone de artistas jóvenes —de entre 30 y 40 años de edad— que se desenvuelven en un terreno crítico por las condiciones de crisis mundial en distintos niveles y diversas áreas de estudio humano (económico, político, social). Latinoamérica se ha caracterizado a lo largo de su historia por mantener una producción de arte y cultura desde el terreno de la constante y creciente crisis, una inestabilidad que ha trastocado distintos estratos y niveles de afectación. Visto desde esta perspectiva, el enfoque de este trabajo sobre agentes de arte cuya inspiración está enraizada en la realidad latinoamericana cobra lógica. Parte de la razón por la cual este proyecto nace, es porque a lo largo de la historia, se ha visto cómo las épocas de crisis incentivan a crear nuevas revisiones del contexto a través del arte. A partir de esta premisa, este proyecto pregunta ¿es esta época de crisis -el hoy en todos sus niveles- un caldo de cultivo para el desarrollo del tipo de arte que cambiará la historia? ¿Sobre qué hablan estas personas que se atreven a escribir este nuevo capítulo de la historia?  //  Today the majority of artists are between ages 30 to 40, most of whom develop their artwork in a terrain of crisis built up through various strata (economical, political, and social). Latin America is characterized by its long history of cultural production within a harsh context. Through this scope, the focus of the project on cultural producers interested in creating new modes of acknowledging crisis and instability becomes meaningful. Throughout history we have witnessed how eras of depression detonate new revisions of such difficult contexts, revisions that often occur through artistic and cultural practices. Is this time of current crisis a breeding ground for the development of the kind of art that will change history? What are the topics and interests of these people who dare to write this new chapter of human history?

Para nosotros, es imprescindible realizar un estudio de esta naturaleza debido a que los tiempos de crisis estimulan el aislamiento y la depresión generalizada. De caer en estas vías, el agente de arte deja de producir, su producción deja de manifestar el espíritu de su tiempo, o se aísla del mundo, rompiendo lazos importantes que le permitan abrirse camino ante la adversidad. Si bien este proyecto no tiene como propósito específico el de poner en contacto a cada uno de estos agentes artísticos entre sí, sí pretende poner de manifiesto las redes existentes para potenciar su activación a futuro. El proyecto trata sobre la representación gráfica y lúdica de las redes de transferencia de ideas artísticas y determinar así el desarrollo actual del arte y la cultura.  //  For us, it is imperative to conduct an investigation of this nature since times of crisis stimulate widespread isolation and depression. When falling into these ruts, the artist fails to produce meaningful art because the latter fails to manifest the spirit of his/her time; within time, the artist breaks important ties that could support him/her through periods of adversity. This project does not specifically aim to put each one of these cultural agents in contact, instead its goal is to make these existent networks evident to potentiate their future activation. The project deals with a graphic and ludic representation of webs of artistic transference and thereby determines the current development of art and culture.

Al realizar este trabajo con la ayuda de los artistas pretendemos llegar a territorios distintos sobre arte contemporáneo que no han sido previamente abordados en otros estudios, valiéndonos de las herramientas de comunicación por Internet, que desobedecen y rebasan los límites y distancias geográficas. El objetivo de este proyecto es el de poder activar, al tiempo que fomentar, las redes que existen entre artistas pertenecientes a una generación de por sí ya conectada, y que enfrenta situaciones diversas de crisis generalizada a nivel global.  //  By making this work with the help of artists, we intend to arrive at different territories in contemporary art that have not previously been addressed in other studies, utilizing the tools of internet communication, which disobey and surpass geographic limits and distances. The objective of this project is to activate, while also fostering, the webs that exist between artists that pertain to a generation that are already connected and who confront varied situations of general crisis on a global level.

Este estudio parte del concepto de Ego Redes (Ego Networks), en oposición a una idea de mainsdream y en base a la noción de atlas geográfico y de arte.  //  This study departs from the concept of Ego Networks, as opposed to an idea of the mainsdream and is based on the notion of the Geographic Atlas and Art Atlas.
